Business HR MOT

Our HR MOT programme gives employers clear, practical support to understand their HR responsibilities.

The programme is designed to strengthen small businesses HR foundations, reduces risk, and supports compliance. It also highlights common challenges across the local business community, helping us shape future support and initiatives.

Who this is for?

  • Any business employing one or more members of staff
  • Businesses without a dedicated HR function, or where HR support is limited or informal
  • Small or developing HR teams with restricted capacity
  • Business owners or managers who want reassurance that what they are doing is correct
  • Businesses who may have informal processes in place but are unsure if they meet legal requirements

What’s included?

  • Recruitment advice, including how roles are advertised, candidates are selected, and offers are made
  • Employment guidance, including contracts, key terms and conditions, and pre-employment checks (e.g. references, Right to Work, DBS where relevant)
  • Onboarding advice, including how new starters are introduced and what information or guidance is provided
  • Policies and processes, including what is in place and how these are applied in practice
  • Guidance on management of people issues, including how absence, performance and conduct are handled
  • Employee records and documentation, including what is held and how records are maintained

Why take part?

By the end of the HR MOT, participating businesses will:

  • Have a clear understanding of where you stand as an employer
